So Bluewater Park was coming, and my great business and lifestyle were under threat. The shop was pretty small – around 500 sq ft, but had a derelict flat above. The business had already funded two property developments that I had project-managed (and achieved a decent return from), so the reaction to the impending threat of Bluewater was a bit of a no-brainer. I would more than double the retail space, carry out a complete refurb, and enable the business to continue to grow. And I wouldn’t need the “services” of any poncy designers, as it’s really not that difficult to design, plan and execute a retail space that really works, sourcing and managing yourself, making a saving of 40-50% on the “going rate” . A deal was negotiated with the landlord, that actually left us both happy; he had his property hugely enhanced, and I got very cheap rent for the next 5 years. So.. it was time to get cracking, on a 9 month project to take the business to the next level. Out with the old…..
